Rachel Mannering is an associate lawyer practicing civil litigation, with a focus on personal injury and civil sexual assault.
Rachel grew up in Ontario and completed a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and Public Policy at the University of Guelph. Through her studies, she developed a strong interest in the law and a deeper understanding of the challenges individuals can face within the criminal justice system. This led to a particular interest in the civil system as an avenue for survivors of sexual assault, where individuals may have greater agency in the process and the opportunity to pursue accountability in a way that aligns with their own goals and circumstances.
She later moved to British Columbia to attend the University of Victoria for law school. During her time there, Rachel was actively involved in a number of advocacy and community-based initiatives, including the Disability Alliance BC Legal Clinic, Pro Bono Students Canada, and Simcoe Community Living Access. Through this work, she gained early experience supporting individuals navigating complex systems and developed a thoughtful, client-centred approach that continues to guide her practice.
Rachel completed her articles and began her legal career at a firm specializing in insurance defence. This experience gave her valuable insight into how insurers assess and defend claims. For the past three years, she has practiced on the plaintiff side, where she draws on that perspective to advocate effectively for her clients and anticipate the strategies used by opposing parties.
Rachel is particularly passionate about representing survivors of sexual assault. She approaches her work with a trauma-informed perspective, prioritizing clear communication, respect, and creating a space where clients feel comfortable and supported. She understands that litigation can be an overwhelming process and strives to ensure her clients feel heard, informed, and empowered every step of the way.
She is known for her strong research and advocacy skills, as well as her ability to connect with clients in a genuine and approachable way. Rachel brings a thoughtful and strategic approach to her work and is committed to achieving meaningful, client-centred outcomes.
