Douglas Chiu has 18 years of experience helping clients resolve their financial disputes.
Doug’s primary clients are small and medium-size businesses and individuals who have been financially impacted by the activities of another.
He has experience dealing with professional negligence cases concerning engineers, architects, insurance brokers, trades, and financial planners. Doug has also assisted clients denied insurance coverage through their disability insurer, critical illness insurer, and commercial insurer.
Furthermore, he has acted for individuals who have been injured in motor vehicle accidents, assaults, medical malpractice, and other acts of negligence. He has appeared as counsel in dozens of trials and other proceedings in the Supreme Court of British Columbia.
Within the legal community, Doug is appointed by the Law Society of British Columbia’s Tribunal to sit on their Discipline and Credentials panel. He is a member of the Advisory Committee of the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers (British Columbia). Doug is also the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia’s representative on the American Association of Justice’s Minority Caucus.
He is a frequent guest speaker for various institutions and has chaired and spoken at conferences on numerous litigation topics. Doug regularly appears on Chinese Media within the Lower Mainland, providing commentary on important legal issues.
Doug is fluent in English and Cantonese and can communicate in Mandarin.
