The parties attended the settlement approval hearing before Justice Francis on October 11, 2024. At the hearing, Justice Francis approved the settlement, in addition to the payment of legal fees, disbursements and the honorarium.

Background
On July 5, 2019, Hammerco Lawyers filed a proposed class action against WestJet alleging WestJet improperly charged and collected a fee for its passenger’s first piece of checked baggage.
Against the defendants, the class action is seeking to recover the fees collected by WestJet for the first-checked baggage during the class period. The class action also seeks punitive damages from WestJet for their conduct.
