Medical procedures can leave people feeling vulnerable and afraid, especially when it comes to women’s health. However, when medical professionals are negligent in their duty to their patients, the results can be catastrophic.

Hammerco Partner Alexia Majidi recently settled a case for a courageous woman who endured life-altering injuries during what was supposed to be a routine and uncomplicated hysterectomy. However, her experience was anything but routine.

During the procedure, her OB-GYN severely damaged both ureters, the tubes that connect the kidneys to the bladder. As a result of her OB-GYN’s negligence, the patient underwent multiple life-saving surgeries. Despite efforts by other surgeons to reverse the damage to her ureters, she has been left with life-long medical complications and permanent loss of function in one of her ureters. Today, she must self-catheterize several times a day just to perform a task most of us take for granted—emptying her bladder. Only in her mid-40s, she now has a permanent disability as a result of her OB-GYN’s negligence and has had to give up her career as a teacher. What was once a normal, healthy life was irrevocably changed due to medical carelessness.

We were able to secure a settlement of $1.95 million to help compensate her for her pain and suffering, in addition to her past and future loss of income and future care needs. But no amount of money can ever truly restore what she has lost.

At Hammerco, we understand that this is about more than financial compensation. It is about restoring dignity, seeking accountability, and ensuring that women’s voices are heard. Too often, women’s health concerns are downplayed or dismissed. When medical professionals fail your health and well-being, we step in to ensure they are held accountable for the harm they have caused.
