Hammerco is proud to announce that Partner Krista Simon has been appointed a member of the Judicial Council of the Tsawwassen First Nation, Sc̓əwaθn Məsteyəxʷ, for a five-year term.
The Judicial Council is comprised of five members appointed by the Tsawwassen First Nation Executive Council. The Council is primarily responsible for resolving disputes that arise on Tsawwassen Lands, resolving disputes between Tsawwassen Members and elected officials, hearing appeals from administrative decisions, and determining the validity of Tsawwassen laws. Depending on the nature of the dispute and which Tsawwassen Law applies, litigants may be Tsawwassen Members or could be non-members.
Krista brings over 20 years of experience in civil litigation to the Council. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) from the Memorial University of Newfoundland, a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Dalhousie University Schulich School of Law, and a Master of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School.
Krista joined Hammerco in 2004 and was the first woman to join the partnership. She is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia, a member of the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador (non-practicing status), appointed to the Supreme Court Civil and Family Rules Committee, appointed to the Hearing Pool Panel of the Law Society of BC, and a Governor and Past President of the Trial Lawyers Association of BC, among other memberships and appointments.
