The Supreme Court of British Columbia has certified a claim against Airbnb Inc. and various affiliated entities (“Airbnb”) as a class action. The lawsuit, brought forward by plaintiff M. Ware, alleges that Airbnb does not have the necessary licensing requirements to provide its services and is, therefore, not permitted to charge consumers a fee for its services.
The certification decision allows the case to proceed as a class action. It does not decide whether the Plaintiff’s claim is successful or not. Airbnb has 30 days from the date of judgment (December 11, 2024) to file an appeal of the decision.
